While hurricanes are happening in California, people in those areas might be in great danger of covid-19, especially people who need shelter.
If you live in an area where a natural disaster such as hurricanes or earthquakes takes place, there are ways to protect yourself.
Pack an emergency preparedness kit in case of emergency:
· Drinking water (at least one gallon per person per day)
· Nonperishable food, such as canned veggies and protein bars.
· Manual can opener.
· Flashlights or portable lanterns and extra batteries.
· First aid kit.
While Dr. William Schaffner, professor of preventive medicine and infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, says: “If they’re going from hospital to hospital, obviously in the transport, healthcare workers have to be very careful to protect themselves and protect the patients. However, I’m less concerned about that since in the healthcare setting everybody’s got protective equipment on and should be vaccinated,” Schaffner told Health line.
But the thing that is worrying is people who have to transfer to shelters or stay somewhere else temporarily. These could elevate the infection of covid-19 around the world.
“Many people who they encounter indoors will not be vaccinated, so there will be the virus out there spreading in some of those circumstances,” Schaffner said.
Overall, COVID-19 vaccination sites in mentioned locations most likely won’t be open and routine vaccinations might be on hold for some time.
